Deconstructed Shirt Project

This project is part of the Sophomore Year BFA Fashion Program at Parsons School of Design.

I initially started by draping a XXL shirt over a size 6 mannequin to explore how its shape could be transformed into a new type of garment. The draping shown above immediately reminded me of ponchos worn by Argentinian gauchos.

I put together a moodboard of different types of gauchos (Argentinian cowboys) in order to inspire my project.

I also analyzed the parts of a gaucho outfit and created three preliminary designs.

The back of the cape shows a circular design using gradient yarn that I felted into the back using a felt loom machine.

The final product includes a cape, a shirt and a scarf that capture the modernization of traditional gaucho attire.

**Pants and boots are not made or designed by me.
