This project is part of the "The Value of Clothing" project which can be fully accessed here.
The Value of Clothing project focuses on creating a more sustainable fashion system by finding and assigning conceptual value to items of clothing. This can be related to price, sentimental value, use, aesthetics, or fit.
Secondhand clothing has aggregated value compared to new and never-worn items. However, the problem with this type of clothing is that it's unlikely for these items to tailor to people's size and style at the same time.
From this duality emerges the Thrift & Tailor map, an interactive map that includes all of the Housing Works thrift stores and their nearby dry cleaners and tailors. This way, customers can get their thrift finds altered and sized to their liking right down the block. This method would increase the number of people willing to buy clothing at a secondhand store by reducing size, cleanliness, and even style issues. The full origin of the map, as well as the use of Housing Works locations specifically can be read in the project's complete case study.
